International goods for sale to support Red Cross

The 51st Diplomatic Red Cross Bazaar will present outstanding products from 53 countries. Diplomatic Red Cross Bazaar

Shopping enthusiasts should mark the calendar for the "Diplomatic Red Cross Bazaar" for Saturday and Sunday. The highly-anticipated event will bring a myriad of famous products from around the world for a two-day shopping spree from 10am-8pm.

Once again Royal Paragon Hall on the 5th floor of Siam Paragon, Rama I, which has been the favourite venue for this charity fair since 2002, will be packed with booths and stalls offering high-quality products at special prices from at least 53 countries. This is probably what makes the bazaar an annual outing for many who find it convenient to check out their favourite items on the same floor under the same roof, right in central Bangkok.

Organised with great support from diplomats and their spouses, as well as officials from various embassies, the 51st edition of the bazaar focuses on the concept of "Celebrating The 125th Anniversary Of The Thai Red Cross Society And The Elegance of Giving", and will introduce special trolley bags designed to reflect society's four main pillars -- Heal, Relief, Give and Prevent -- in its commitment to charitable deeds to help the underprivileged in Thailand over the years.

This year will see many interesting products, such as Russian nesting dolls (matryoshka dolls), lacquered boxes and Gzhel ceramics from Russia; crystal accessories, chocolates and cocoa powder from Belgium; salmon from Norway; chocolates, cheese, ice cream and kitchenware from Switzerland; vitamins, bedding and duvet pillows from Australia; frozen seafood and maple syrup from Canada; and argan oil from Morocco.

Outstanding products from Bhutan will be jam, honey, mineral water and other natural products, while Mongolia will bring cashmere shirts, scarves, shawls and leatherwear to display alongside sandals and gemstones from Brazil; glassware and crystals from Czechoslovakia; rubies, jade, jewellery, tanaka powder, tea, coffee and cashews from Myanmar; egg tarts from Portugal; and dates and apricots from Israeli.

After a three year absence, Turkey will come back with nazar charms against the evil eye, delicate rugs, ceramics, drawings, dried fruits, nuts and silverware.

As in previous years, the popular raffles will be available with many special prizes prepared for the lucky winners. Raffle tickets are priced at 50 baht each and the prizes will be drawn on March 15 at the Fundraising Bureau of the Thai Red Cross Society, Rama IV.

Admission to the bazaar cost 50 baht and proceeds will go to the Thai Red Cross Society.
