International food store that is deceptively small on the outside is packed with deals

International food stores always come in handy. As diverse as Nottingham is, the different stores in different areas that reflect multiculturalism is wonderful to see.

We found an international food store in Hyson Green that was deceivingly small on the outside but packed on the inside, as community reporter Keimae Blake reports….

Hyson Green is arguably one of the most diverse places in Nottingham. With a variety of takeaways and stores to reflect this, Wiloks International Food Stores specialises in African and Caribbean foods.

The shop could easily be missed as it’s packed on to a strip of shops on Radford Road. Battling my way through all the traffic during rush hour I found my way into Wiloks store.

When I went inside, it was empty, I was the only customer in the store along with a lady behind the till. Inside, it was freezing but I was amazed at how big the shop was.

With rows and rows of products including seasonings and rice, I walked up and down the aisles. Wiloks International Food Store sells exotic fish and just like any other fish store, you could smell it.

As a child, I hated being dragged to the Victoria Centre Market where there were fishmongers with my mum. With household items in stock such as Tropical Sun seasonings for only 99p, this would be the ideal store to come to stock up.

With 10kg bags of rice for £14.49, I had never heard of the brand Peacock but this bag is cheaper than a 10kg bag of the brand Tilda rice in Tesco which is priced at £26.00.

I had never also heard of the brand Africa’s Finest either but they produce peanut butter. For 500g, the peanut butter is only £2.99. Many people know the brand Milo, produced by Nestle.

The chocolate-flavoured malted powder product used a lot to make hot chocolates is £5.49 for 500g - I bet this is one of their best sellers. If you’re cooking a traditional dish or simply want to stock up on some of your most-used products, I’m sure Wiloks International Food Stores supply it.

The small store has more than you would think.
