International Dog Day: Scots pooches pose at famous National Trust landmarks

Scotland's most photogenic pooches have been striking a pose in front of some of the country's most famous landmarks for International Dog Day.

As part of a campaign to celebrate the planned reopening for 33 of its heritage locations, the National Trust for Scotland asked users to submit pics of their pets on their favourite strolls and walks at their sites.

Snaps flooded in from all over Scotland, with the goodest boys and girls pictured in front of famous sites such as the Dunmore Pineapple and Bannockburn.

The charity, which cares for some of the nation’s most treasured buildings and places, stated that the re-openings have been made possible by the £3.8million in funding from the Scottish Government which was received earlier this month.

A further £2.5m was raised by supporters after its future was threatened by the covid-19 crisis.

Fundraising efforts are still ongoing while a new campaign, Stride Out For Scotland, has been encouraging people to get out and enjoy Scotland’s incredible natural heritage at the country parks, Munros and wild spaces that the charity cares for.

A spokesperson for the charity said: "Needless to say, Scotland’s four-legged friends have been enjoying the chance to shake off the lockdown cobwebs.

"From Lachie on the Pinewood Trail walk at Inverewe Gardens in the Highlands to Fred climbing Arran’s Goatfell, these 'Dog Days' have been worth waiting for."

The charity is also urging visitors to check and follow the latest Scottish Government Covid-19 advice, and follow health and hygiene guidelines, as it continues to carry out staggered openings of its properties across Scotland.
