Only one week away and the Bangkok International Children's Theatre Festival will return with a string of performances and activities, running over two weekends from Aug 21-30.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the biennial festival continues to highlight the importance of arts as a place for creativity that can spark imagination, hope and dreams and also a safe space for children and adults to share meaningful quality time together.
Held under the theme "Play Attention: Look Who's Growing Up", this 5th edition invites audiences of all ages to return to this playground and experience the power of play through a programme of five ticketed performances and six free performances by artists from nine countries -- South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Belgium, France, the UK, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand.
They will be staged at three different venues -- One Bangkok on Rama IV Road; Goethe-Institut Thailand on Sathon 1; and Sodsai Pantoomkomol Centre for Dramatic Arts at Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University on Phaya Thai Road. The line-up includes:
- IYKYK, an interactive performance where audiences will ride in golf carts through a spectacular world of light and shadow, created by DuckUnit, one of Thailand's leading multimedia design collectives, at One Bangkok's parking lot daily from 11am to 6pm.
- Kaow Kome, a multidisciplinary performance specially created for babies aged three to 24 months and their families to explore the shared cultural significance of rice in Japan and Thailand, at Goethe-Institut from Aug 21-23 at 11am and 4pm.
- Frolic, a dance theatre featuring disabled and non-disabled Thai performers, directed by an artist from the UK's Stopgap Dance Company, a global leader in inclusive choreography, at Sodsai Pantoomkomol Centre, on Aug 22 and 23 at 1.30pm.
- Plock!, a contemporary circus by Belgian company Grensgeval, where the performers use their entire bodies to create a live painting inspired by the work of renowned artist Jackson Pollock, at One Bangkok Pavilion from Aug 28-30 daily at 11am, plus a 2pm show on Aug 29 and 30.
The festival also features six artist-led workshops and post-performance talks that invite audiences to engage more deeply with the artists and their creative processes.
