International book festival opens

KANNUR

The international book festival organised as part of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] 23rd Party Congress kickstarted at the collectorate ground, here on Friday.  Eminent writer T. Padmanabhan inaugurated the book festival. As many 63 publishers in India, including Aakar Books, Prism, Penguin, Bharathi Bookstore, Prajasakti, Nava Telangana, Chintha Publications, DC Books, Mathrubhumi, Sahitya Prasadhaka Sahakarana Sangham, Balasahithya Institute and others have put on display several lakh books written by eminent writers. The book collection includes those written by historian Irfan Habib, the eminent lawyer Abdul Ghafoor Majeed Noorani, and thinkers such as N. Ram, Prabhat Patnaik, and Noam Chomsky.  At the event, CPI(M) leaders E.P. Jayarajan, M.V. Govindan, M.V Jayarajan and others released the books from various publishers.
