Police have launched an internal investigation into the handling of a domestic violence report made earlier this month against Warren Browne, who fatally shot a 42-year-old man inside a woman's Kotara South home on Saturday afternoon before turning the gun on himself.
Browne, 42, was believed to be a former short-term boyfriend of the woman - who escaped the weekend's ordeal with her life.
NSW Police said released a statement on Tuesday in response to questions about a harassment complaint the woman reportedly made to police about Browne in the weeks before the murder-suicide.

"An internal investigation is underway following a domestic violence report made to officers at Lake Macquarie Police District earlier this month," a NSW Police spokesperson said.
"As the matter is ongoing, any further comment at this stage would be inappropriate."
Neighbours said at the weekend the woman had recently moved to the street and they had seen the man - who was murdered by Browne on Saturday - visit from time to time.
