DEHRADUN: Internal bickering in Congress came to the fore again on Friday as former chief minister Harish Rawat and his bete-noire within the party, six-time MLA Pritam Singh, engaged in a banter over the responsibility of the state assembly poll debacle.
It started with a Facebook post put up by Harish Rawat that asked why should he alone be held responsible for the loss the party suffered in the state assembly elections held earlier this year.
In an apparent attack on Pritam Singh, Rawat added that senior party leaders should also share the responsibility for the failure.
“I was a Lok Sabha member and over the years, have served the party. Even if people associated with me lost the election, they put up a good show. Unfortunately, some insiders are holding me accountable for the defeat. They make a statement against me wherever they go, be it a wedding or any other event.” The former chief minister added that such party members should talk to him in person. “The polls were contested under my leadership, so I took responsibility for the defeat. However, there were others who wanted top posts but have now disappeared,” said Rawat.
