Interior design ideas: home is where the art is - in pictures

Homes - bold : colourful lounge with yellow armchair and cast iron fireplace
The usual rules of colour don’t apply to this three-bedroom maisonette. Oranges, reds and yellows feature prominently, side by side. In the sitting room, a mustard-yellow 1970s reproduction club chair sits alongside a red sofa and chair from Heal’s. The screenprint above the fireplace is by artist Rob Ryan. Photograph: Jan Baldwin
Homes - bold : orange kitchen
The Formica kitchen is inspired by the burnt copper of a Le Creuset pan, matched by a rich brown flagstone floor. Worktops are former school science benches, complete with graffiti. Photograph: Jan Baldwin
Homes - bold : dining room
The home’s owners – Rosie Wolfenden, co-founder of jewellery design company Tatty Devine, and her husband Anthony, a freelance film editor – moved here a year ago. They've filled it with retro furniture, high-street finds and hand-me-downs, among them an elaborate rug hand-stitched by Wolfenden’s grandmother and a set of antique dining chairs from a great aunt. Homes - bold : Cupboard with vintage ceramics and radio
In the living room, shelves are filled with quirky, colourful collections of retro ceramics, glassware and heirlooms, including Rosie's father's first pair of baby shoes. Photograph: Jan Baldwin
Homes - bold : red kettle with cups and tiles in background
Kitchen tiles are by Rob Ryan, Wolfenden's friend and sometime collaborator. Photograph: Jan Baldwin
Homes - bold : hallway with blue walls

Three bedrooms mean friends can come to stay, a welcome change for the couple who previously lived in a one-bedroom flat. “The flat is great for parties and has a lovely fluid energy because you can access both floors from outside, and the inside spaces are open-plan,” Wolfenden says. “Being able to fill our home with friends is so important to me."
