Interim deputy CEO Niall Quinn to address his FAI future after crunch EGM

Niall Quinn will address his FAI future after Monday’s crunch EGM.

The association needs two-thirds of its members to pass reform measures outlined in January’s government bailout.

More than €30m in Government grants and loans hinges on Monday’s D-day vote on that Memorandum of Understating (MOU).

Quinn is out of contract as interim deputy CEO of the FAI.

And yesterday, he said: “I've not been as involved as I was in the last few weeks but I have helped out with a couple of things that needed fulfilling.

“But like everybody else on Monday, we’ll start to see what way the future looks. Monday is a significant event for everybody here.

“It was always the plan to reevaluate things if and when the MoU was adapted or not.

“The board and Gary Owens are working very hard to make sure everyone knows what they need to know.

“The game needs to come together and has to go through a period of correction. It's not as bleak as people who feel put out by it thought it was.

“I'm hopeful the MoU and all the talk about it will be long forgotten as the game starts to recover and push itself over the next three years.

"But asked if he was considering stepping back from a prominent role in the FAI, ex-Ireland striker Quinn said: “We’ll wait until Monday.”

He added: “There's stuff that is enjoyable to do. There's no doubt there was hostility, in small pockets. Some publicly by design. Others privately.

“But I really like working with the staff here so we'll all have to see how it goes on Monday.”
