InterContinental Hotels has fallen back despite news that one of the richest men in the Netherlands has bought a stake in the group.

Beverweerd Investments, the vehicle of John Fentener van Vlissingen has snapped up 7.5m shares in IHG or 3.17%, worth around £192m.

Van Vlissingen has major investments in the travel industry and began his own company BCD Holdings in 1975.

InterContinental has been tipped as a takeover target and last year reportedly rejected a bid from a US suitor.

Its shares are currently down 1.75% or 46p at £25.70.
