Interactive timeline: 1958 Munich Air Disaster

The Munich Air Disaster, on February 6 1958, claimed the lives of eight Manchester United players and three Old Trafford staff.

Eight sports journalists, including the Manchester Evening News’ Tom Jackson, also perished in Germany in the crash that happened when United were returning from a European Cup tie in Belgrade against Red Star in 1958.

Twenty-three people died in total as a result of the tragedy.
