Nottingham coronavirus map shows the true divide in cases across the city

A map showing the current coronavirus rates across greater Nottingham has revealed a stark divide among different areas.

The infection rate indicates how many people per 100,000 have contracted coronavirus.

An interactive map released by the Government highlights the pockets where coronavirus is still prevalent, where it is high and in some cases, where it is suppressed and has fewer than 3 cases.

The whole of Nottinghamshire is currently still under Tier 3 restrictions - the highest level - with a review due on December 16.

But the latest figures show Bestwood Village and Redhill areas are now almost free of the virus. They stand out as white areas on the interactive map.

Around the city centre, the areas are mostly the two shades of green indicating rates between 11 and 100 - which would put these areas lower than others parts of the country currently in Tier 2.

While there is a band of blue areas indicating rates about 100 and 200, pockets of green are showing up in Bilborough North (87.4 per 100,000), Sherwood Vale (51.7) and Mapperley & Porchester (57.4).

University Park, Lenton Abbey and Jubillee Campus, meanwhile, which once had one of the worst rates in the city, now stands at a rate of just 36.3.

Forest Fields stands out quite boldly as the only area in the darkest purple shade, indicating a rate above 400. The official rate for this area currently is 674.5.

The rate there is nearly five times more than the national average, although the overall rate for the city continues to fall.
