Interactive map shows the 4 areas of Nottinghamshire with lowest coronavirus rates

Four areas of Nottinghamshire with the lowest rates of coronavirus infections have been revealed in a new interactive map.

The data, released on a government website, shows the current number of Covid-19 cases and how the figures translate to a rate per 100,000 in different neighbourhoods.

The map uses Middle Super Output Areas (MSOAs) and displays weekly data which updated daily.

Middle Layer Super Output Areas are larger than electoral wards but smaller than Districts with an average population of around 8,000 people.

The latest figures for the week ending December 23, show that across the whole of Nottinghamshire, there are four areas that have rates between 50 and 99 - the third lowest cluster of rates.

Of these four areas, three are neighbouring city locations while the fourth is in the borough of Broxtowe.

Two areas also include student campuses for both Nottingham Trent University and University of Nottingham.

In the heart of Nottingham, the MSOA named Arboretum, Forest and Trent University has continued to have the lowest rate for at least two weeks.

It has eight cases and a rolling rate of 61.4 cases per 100,000 people, which has gone up slightly from the previous report.

Attenborough and Chilwell East has the second lowest seven-day rolling rate at 65.8 with a total of five cases, which has decreased by two on the previous day's report.

With rates at the top end of the category but still below 100, is Radford with 16 cases and a rate of 99.4 and the neighbouring University Park, Lenton and Jubilee Campus with 11 cases and a rate of 99.8.

On the map, these four areas are the only parts of the county put into the dark green category, standing out in a sea of blue areas (rates above 100 and 200) with some purple hotspots where rates have soared above 400.
