Interactive map shows the 3 coronavirus hotspots in Nottinghamshire

Three areas of north Nottinghamshire now have the worst rates of coronavirus infections in the county, according to an interactive map.

The government data shows they all have a rate new cases above 800, expressed per 100,000 of the population, accounting for the seven days up to January 10.

Selston has a rolling rate of 876.7 with 59 total cases in the seven days to January 10, up 3 on the previous week, while the rate for Sutton Central and Leamington stands at 1,105.9. This represents 88 cases in the seven-period, up 24.

People in the Sutton Central and Leamington area said earlier this week they were alarmed about the rise in cases.

The interactive Government map also shows that Forest Town and Newlands has a rolling rate of 978.2, with 110 cases, up by 52 on the previous week.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced all travel corridors will close from Monday - as he called for the public to once again stay at home.

During a briefing on Friday (January 15), he said: "We must take additional steps now to stop those strains from entering the country.

"So yesterday (Thursday, January 14) we announced that we're banning flights from South America and Portugal and, to protect us against the risk of as yet unidentified new strains, we will also temporarily close all travel corridors from 0400 hours on Monday."
