Dozens of Londoners were forced to evacuate their homes after a major water pipe burst and caused “significant flooding”.
Thousands across south London woke up to find no water running from their taps, while 27 homes were flooded during the incident.
Thames Water warned that the burst pipe in South Bermondsey meant some customers were left without water or with low water pressure.
Ilderton Road appeared to resemble a canal after the street was left completely covered in water.
A cyclist was spotted trying to push through the ankle-deep water while one resident could be seen putting a bin bag over his bottom half to try and tackle the flooding.
Millwall FC’s stadium, The Den, was briefly left without water and the club was forced to close its ticket office and Lions Store on Tuesday morning as a key road leading to the site was flooded.
Ilderton Primary School was also forced to close on Tuesday due to the flooding.
In total 12 postcodes across south London have been affected by the incident, stretching from Rotherhithe to Brixton.
The affected postcodes are SE1, SE5, SE8, SE10, SE11, SE14, SE15, SE16, SE17, SW4, SW8 and SW9.
In an update on its website, Thames Water said its staff were onsite and working to isolate the section of pipe that needs repairing.
It explained that the water pressure was returning to the area and most customers should begin to see their supply come back by Tuesday lunchtime.
In a statement the water company said: “We know some properties have unfortunately been affected by flooding.
“Our team is on the ground supporting residents. If you're nearby and need assistance, colleagues can be found on Verney Road, SE16. Please feel free to speak with them.
“To keep everyone safe, traffic management is in place while work is ongoing. We’re sorry for any disruption this may cause to your journey.
“We understand how disruptive it is to be without water, and we’re working as quickly and safely as possible to put things right.”

Meanwhile, Southwark Council posted on X: “Major water pipe burst in Ilderton Road, SE16 this morning causing significant flooding.
“We are working on the scene with Thames Water and the Met Police.
“We've helping people who have had to leave their homes and have set up a rest centre.”
