Interactive free food map shows all places across Greater Glasgow that can feed those in need

An interactive map has been launched to pinpoint places across Greater Glasgow where those in need can get free food.

Community-led environmental charity Urban Roots was commissioned by the Scottish Government to map out organisations providing food parcels and free meals to the city's most vulnerable.

The group got in touch after reading the heartbreaking story of the Glaswegian mum who had lost her job in lockdown and told an acquaintance in Govanhill she hadn't eaten for three days.

Food co-ordinator Anne Philbrow said: "Glasgow community food projects are providing much support across their communities. Not only food parcels, but tackling social isolation, running cooking sessions online, financial support and advice etc and doing much good work in response to the crisis."

Anne, who also works with Govan-based non-profit Moogety Grub Hub, said the map also highlights lesser-known groups tackling food insecurity in the city.

She added: "Trussell Trust are often seen as the only foodbank provider. There are also many more independent food banks (provided by charities, faith based and other organisations)."

Make sure to call organisations ahead as some services will be closed due to the coronavirus.
