Inter sporting director confirms talks with Manchester United about Romelu Lukaku transfer

Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio has confirmed that he was in England to hold talks with Manchester United over the potential transfer of Romelu Lukaku.

United's Belgian striker wants to leave Old Trafford this summer as it appears that Marcus Rashford will be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first choice striker next season.

Serie A giants Inter are the side who've been heavily linked with Lukaku, with new manager Antonio Conte, who wanted to sign him for Juventus and Chelsea, wanting to build his new strike force around him.

The MEN revealed that Ausilio flew to London to meet United officials over a transfer for Lukaku, though sources in Italy have told MEN Sport the Nerazzurri would prefer a deal which includes players in exchange or a financially structured arrangement paid over instalments.

Ausilio arrived back in Milan on Thursday and told Sky Sports in the airport: “We had a meeting with Man United for Lukaku. It has been an official approach between two important clubs. Let’s see. Conte wants every player we’re trying to sign."

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said on Thursday that the club hadn’t received any offers for players and added “we are Man United, we don’t have to sell”, though it is understood the Reds will entertain cash bids around the £75million mark for Lukaku – the figure they paid Everton for his services two years ago.

Lukaku is currently in Australia on pre-season with the rest of the United first team.
