Inter Milan urged to complete Alexis Sanchez permanent transfer from Manchester United

Internazionale great Ivan Zamorano has urged the club to complete a permanent deal for Manchester United's Alexis Sanchez, who is currently on loan in Serie A.

Sanchez has endured a stop-start time with Inter, hampered by injury, which has restricted him to just nine appearances — scoring one goal — for Antonio Conte's side.

But despite his struggles for both Inter and United, Zamorano told Chilean radio station Radio Cooperativa the prospect of Sanchez staying for longer at San Siro — with another Chilean international in Arturo Vidal, who has been linked with the Milan club — is an appealing one.

He said: “He has a contract with Manchester United but we will see where he wants to continue and feels happy.

"I would like [him] to stay in Milan, in June he would have the opportunity to play with another Chilean, who will most likely come to this club. I am optimistic about the possibility to see two Chileans at Inter.”

Zamorano played for Inter between 1996 and 2001 as a striker and won 69 caps for Chile.

He called for his fellow countryman Sanchez to start against city rivals AC Milan in their showdown in Serie A on Sunday, potentially reigniting his partnership with former United striker Romelu Lukaku.

“I hope he has the opportunity to play from the beginning," he added.

"With his intelligence and his speed he can make a difference. The most important thing is that Alexis can have fun and play a great game.

"He didn’t play much in Manchester and it cost him physically. When he was in his best physical condition, he got injured.

“On Sunday he has a great opportunity because Lautaro [Martinez] is disqualified [suspended] and Romelu Lukaku needs a good partner to hurt Milan’s defence which have not done well lately.”
