Inter Milan 'to send transfer flop Alexis Sanchez back to Man Utd'

Inter Milan will reportedly reject the chance to sign Alexis Sanchez permanently as the Chilean looks set to return to Man Utd.

Sanchez is on loan at the San Siro until the end of the season but has struggled to make an impact for the Nerrazurri.

The 31-year-old's time in Milan has been blighted by injuries, and he now finds himself out of favour with boss Antonio Conte.

Inter have the option to buy Sanchez at the end of his loan spell but according to the Mail, Conte has already decided he no longer wants the player.

United are now braced for Sanchez to return to Old Trafford in the summer and face the prospect of being left with his staggering £400,000-per-week salary on their wage bill.

The Red Devils were hopeful of offloading the former Arsenal star, but Inter have been put off by the expense involved in making his deal permanent.

In addition to his extortionate wages, the Serie A giants would also have to stump up a £17.5million fee.

Inter chief Guiseppe Marotta is against spending that sort of money given Sanchez has offered little return for the financial outlay the club have already committed to.

The total cost of the loan agreement will see Inter fork out £4.3m by the time it reaches its end.

Sanchez has started just twice in the Serie A since making the switch to Italy in August.

His form will concern his United bosses who must now figure out how to deal with their unwanted forward, who still has over two years remaining on his contract in Manchester.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was seemingly willing to welcome Sanchez back with open arms however.

The Norwegian manager said in January: "Alexis will come back in the summer and prove you all wrong."
