Inter Milan interested in Manchester United captain Ashley Young in transfer window

Inter Milan have enquired about Manchester United full-back Ashley Young.

Young, 34, was not included in United's provisional squad for their League Cup semi-final first leg defeat to Manchester City and is understood to be fit.

Inter coach Antonio Conte bizarrely tried to sign Young when he was Chelsea coach in 2017 but a deadline day move collapsed and Young went onto start 28 Premier League games in 2017-18. Inter want to sign Young this month.

Young is out of contract at United at the end of the season and does not have the option of an additional year. He is free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with an overseas club this month, or move permanently for a fee.

Club captain Young was omitted from the City squad along with fellow left-back Luke Shaw, who missed three months of the campaign with a hamstring injury.

Brandon Williams, 19, played for United at left-back against City in what was just his 10th career start. United sources indicated in November they had abandoned plans to sign a left-back, having previously monitored Ben Chilwell of Leicester City.

United youngsters Tahith Chong and Angel Gomes are also free to negotiate with overseas clubs this month but Solskjaer indicated in December there was a chance of outgoings.

"There's always a chance of it," Solskjaer said of mid-season departures. "And I can say with 99.9 per cent sure [Chong and Gomes] won't go.

"But there is always a chance teams will be interested in some of ours, maybe they're not happy, haven't played enough, so there might be a chance."
