Inter Milan great picks out Manchester United as preferable Champions League draw for Italian giants

Manchester United secured Champions League knockout qualification with the win over Villarreal on the penultimate matchday of the group stage and they have already been sounded out as the team to face.

Ralf Rangnick rang the changes for the visit of Young Boys on Wednesday as he looked to offer a rest to the players that featured in the win over Crystal Palace in order to get a closer look at the fringe and young players as he embarks on just his second week in interim charge.

Cristiano Ronaldo was one of the standouts throughout the competition scoring in each of the five games he featured including two match-winning strikes against Villarreal and Atalanta before a point-saving volley in the corresponding fixture in Bergamo.

He continued his rich vein of form in Europe at El Madrigal with a sumptuous lob before Jadon Sancho's first goal for the club put the gloss on a resolute display in Spain.

United will be one of eight seeded teams in the last 16 draw and Esteban Cambiasso, who won the competition with Inter Milan, has highlighted Manchester United as a favourable draw for his former club.

“This is the Champions League, you have to play with the best, I would like to go to Old Trafford and dream big," he told Sky Italy via FC Inter 1908.

“I am convinced that United in February with Rangnick, who have very clearly in mind what they want to do, will be another team. They will have the ability to fight, in the transfer market, they will do a lot.

“I did not choose them because they are the weakest but because it is the most suggestive test for Inter.”

Last season's Serie A champions finished runners-up in Group D, five points behind Real Madrid.

Nicolo Barella was sent off in their final group game and will miss at least the first leg.

The draw will be made on Monday with the Reds getting the home advantage in the second leg.
