Inter Milan confirm transfer talks for another Alexis Sanchez extension from Manchester United

Inter Milan say they are in talks over an extension for Alexis Sanchez’s loan from Manchester United.

Sanchez is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford and joined Inter a year ago on a season-long loan deal, linking up this season with former United players Romelu Lukaku and Ashley Young.

United initially allowed both Sanchez and Chris Smalling, who is with Roma, to extend their loan deals in Serie A until August 7th because of the rescheduled Italian season, following the coronavirus pandemic.

But if Inter overcome Getafe in the Europa League last 16, they could face knockout games after that date. And chief executive Giuseppe Marotta told Sky Sport Italia the San Siro club is hopeful that Sanchez will be able to stay to complete the Europa League campaign, with the final on August 21st.

“We have had some contact with Manchester United  to understand if we can extend his stay after the Europa League play-off with Getafe," he said.

“We are discussing contract renewals with many players, above all the younger ones who we want to work with for a long time, and that includes Lautaro [Martinez, the striker].

“We’re doing it calmly, without rush, as there is a rapport of trust. He is happy to wear this jersey and at the opportune moment we will evaluate his future.”

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hinted earlier in the season that Sanchez "will come back and prove you wrong" when asked by journalists about the Chilean's future at Old Trafford.

But it's expected that United will look for long-term suitors for the 31-year-old, who has scored three goals in 26 appearances on loan at Inter this season despite struggling with injuries.
