Inter Milan confirm talks to sign Christian Eriksen from Tottenham

Inter Milan have confirmed talks are underway over a deal to sign Christian Eriksen from Tottenham.

Eriksen has made no secret of his desire to leave Spurs, initially hoping for a move last summer which never materialised.

Standard Sport understands Spurs are holding out for £17m to sell Eriksen in January, though foreign clubs are now able to negotiate a Bosman transfer for the end of the season.

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho claimed this week that Inter had not made a bid for the player before hitting out at coach Antonio Conte for speaking about Eriksen earlier in the week, telling reporters: "I think we coaches should all behave in the same way in relation to transfers.

"I think we should always be closed, until something happens."

On Sunday morning, Inter chief executive Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed discussions are taking place - but the club face stiff competition for his signature.

"We're in talks with Eriksen's agent but there are many clubs interested in him," he said.

"Eriksen is from Tottenham, he is not a player of ours. We know that [his contract] is due to expire. From here to say that Eriksen will arrive in January or June, a lot can happen. There is so much competition."
