Inter Milan chief confirms Milan Skriniar talks with Tottenham but delivers transfer blow

Tottenham have been issued a significant blow in their quest to sign Milan Skriniar from Inter Milan following a statement from the Italian side's chief.

Jose Mourinho's side have been heavily linked with a move for the central defender as the next part of their rebuild, following on from the captures of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Matt Doherty, Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon.

It had been suggested that the San Siro outfit would be open to a sale in order to raise funds for their own activity in the transfer market.

While that may have provided encouragement for Spurs, those hopes appear to have been wiped away following comments from Inter's sporting director Piero Ausilio.

Milan Skriniar wants Spurs move

Speaking ahead of Inter's clash with Fiorentina, Ausilio told DAZN the club have no intention to offload the defender. He said: "I can only confirm that there was a meeting with Tottenham.

"We had a meeting but we told them we don’t want to sell also Skriniar after Diego Godin. He is not on the market and we do not plan to deprive ourselves of him."

Skriniar was an unused substitute for Inter in their opening match of the new season against Fiorentina, with Alessandro Bastoni selected ahead of him.
