Inter Milan CEO confirms club stance on Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku

Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta says the club have made a fair bid for Romelu Lukaku, and hinted that they will not raise it to Manchester United’s asking price.

Lukaku has been linked with Inter this summer, but the clubs have so far been unable to agree on a valuation. United rejected a £54m bid from Inter earlier this month and value Lukaku, 26, at around £80m.

However, Marotta says such a price is inflated, and insists their bid was reflective of Lukaku's true value.

Lukaku has not featured for United in pre-season so far, and did not travel with the squad to Norway to face Krsitiansund tonight. MEN Sport understand the striker is not injured for the friendly.

It is thought Lukaku wants to join Inter, although recent reports have suggested Juventus are also interested. Now, Marotta's comments indicate the San Siro outfit will not return to the table with a second offer.

Marotta told Sky Italia (via Football Italia ): “The club is strong, but we need to stay within certain parameters.

"The club has made big investments and we believe that we’re already at a good stage in the process.

“We are ready to pounce on opportunities, but prices are nowadays very high indeed. We made a strong offer, one that is valid and suited to the transfer value of the player and we were unable to conclude a deal.

“We’ll continue to monitor the situation and anything can happen on the market.”

Lukaku joined United for £75m from Everton in 2017 and has scored 42 goals with 13 assists in 96 appearances.
