Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte explains Alexis Sanchez transfer from Manchester United

Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte has explained that the 'conditions' around Alexis Sanchez's transfer from Manchester United made the move a no-brainer.

The Serie A club have confirmed Sanchez as their next permanent signing today (Thursday) after United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed the Chilean was leaving. He has signed a contract until June 2023 at the San Siro.

Sanchez joins fellow ex-United players Romelu Lukaku and Ashley Young at Inter, who booked their spot in the Europa League quarter-finals with a 2-0 win over Getafe on Wednesday night.

And after United did the same by completing a 7-1 aggregate win over LASK, Solskjaer was asked about Sanchez. He said: "Alexis enjoyed his time there, they liked him, so of course that's a good move for him, wish him all the best, he's a top player, you want to see players perform."

Conte, too, was asked about Sanchez in his post-match interview and detailed why the move made so much sense for the Nerazzurri.

"I think the Sanchez transfer is a very good move by the club," Conte told Sky Italia. "Considering the conditions in which we managed to get Alexis, it was a really good transfer.

"The club deserve credit because he came at the worst moment of his career. He arrived after two difficult years when he was really struggling at United and then got injured with us.

"We took the time to get him back on track, so it is only right for Inter to enjoy it and reap the rewards of that effort."

Sanchez came on as a late substitute in Inter's one-off last 16 tie versus Getafe, with the goals coming from Lukaku and former Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen. They could face United in the Europa League final.

Solskjaer's men take on FC Copenhagen in the quarter-finals while Inter will face either Bayer Leverkusen or Rangers. all
