Inter manager Antonio Conte has not given up on signing Manchester United's Romelu Lukaku

Inter manager Antonio Conte has revealed his 'hope' of signing Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku and hasn't given up yet.

The Italian giants have been chasing Lukaku all summer, as Conte finally wants to sign the striker who has evaded him twice before when at Juventus and Chelsea.

The latest bid of £54million was rejected by the club as it falls well short of United's £80million valuation of the 26-year-old, who himself wants to leave to work with Conte.

Lukaku also does not feel 'important under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, after falling down the striking pecking order to Marcus Rashford.

The Belgian didn't play in United 1-0 victory over Inter in Singapore on Saturday, with the goal coming via another of Lukaku's striking rivals Mason Greenwood, but Conte was asked about him once again after the match.

"I have always answered yes then no about Lukaku," the Italian said.

"It's not right to speak about the player who at this moment is United's player. For this reason we must show great respect for the club and at the same time for the player and also for my players.

"Lukaku is a player I that I like, I like him because I consider him a player who could improve our team. In one side there is my hope, my will, on the other side then we'll see what we find with the club."

Although United and Inter have met in Singapore, the clubs are not expected to speak about Lukaku in Asia. United's head of corporate development, Matt Judge, has been tasked with negotiating deals and is back in the UK. United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is also still in Europe.
