SEOUL -- South Korea's presidential Blue House unveiled on Wednesday a photo of the Peace House -- a South Korean facility in Panmunjom where an inter-Korean summit will be held Friday.
The facility, built in 1989, has recently been renovated because of aging. A friendly mood between the two countries is expected in the building's meeting room.
According to the Blue House, the table for the discussions was changed from square to round. The backrests of the chairs that the leaders of the two Koreas are to sit at will feature a design resembling the Korean Peninsula.
A painting of Mt. Kumgang in the southeastern part of North Korea hangs on a wall in the Peace House. The painting reflects the hopes for a successful meeting because the mountain is regarded as a symbol of conciliation and cooperation between the two Koreas. A tourism project at Mt. Kumgang has been suspended since 2008.
No 'Takeshima' for dessert
On Tuesday, Kenji Kanasugi, the director general of the Foreign Ministry's Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, filed a protest to Lee Hee Sup, the minister and deputy chief of mission at the South Korean Embassy in Japan, against the disputed islets of Takeshima in Shimane Prefecture featuring in a dessert to be served at a banquet at the inter-Korean summit.
A mango dessert with a garnish depicting the Korean Peninsula on top will be served at the banquet. The photograph released by the South Korean government shows tiny dots that appear to be Takeshima next to the peninsula.
