Inter consider ex-Swansea City and Man City striker Wilfried Bony as Man Utd throw spanner in the works over Alexis Sanchez transfer

Former Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony is being considered by European giants Inter Milan.

That's according to reports in Italy, with Tuttosport stating that new boss Antonio Conte is looking for a back-up striker for Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgian joined the Nerazzurri in the summer, but Conte is keen to add further firepower to his ranks as his side gear up for their Serie A opener against Lecce on Monday evening.

The San Siro club have been in talks with Manchester United over a loan deal for Alexis Sanchez, but an injury to United forward Anthony Martial has thrown a spanner in the works.

The Frenchman has had a scan on a thigh problem, and if the injury is deemed serious it could have implications of Sanchez's move to Italy, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer likely to keep the Chilean around if Martial is sidelined for a prolonged period.

Talks are set to continue today between Inter and United, with the Italian club also monitoring the free agent market. If a deal for Sanchez can't be sorted, their pursuit of Ivorian Bony could well be ramped up even further.

Bony has been without a club since his contract with Swansea expired earlier this summer and he has been training with League 2 side Newport County in order to maintain fitness.

Seydou Doumbia, the former Girona striker who is also a free agent, is another target for the Champions League side.

Bony that his agent has spoken to teams in Italy about the next chapter in his career.

He told BBC Sport Wales: "I need to train with a team to be fit before I find a new team.

"My agent is talking with some clubs in Italy and Turkey also. We are waiting for the best offer and then after discussing it, we will try to go there and sign. I hope to find a club as soon as possible."
