Intel and Amazon are hiring – In the week 17/01/11

Tourism: A travel firm is looking for up to 40 recruits to act as guides on tourist trips across Scotland and Ireland, reports the BBC. Rabbie's Trail Burners currently has 12 positions available as guides, operating from Edinburgh and Glasgow, with plans to hire a total of 40 new recruits in the next three years. The company, which offers trips of between one and 16 days, will offer new recruits history and driving training.

Technology and construction: Chip giant Intel is creating more than 1,000 new jobs through an expansion of its operations in Ireland. The refit of Intel's Leixlip plant in County Kildare will create 850 construction jobs, according to The Irish Times. Around 200 permanent technology workers are being hired in advance of the new facility being completed.

Distribution: Online retailer Amazon will create 950 new jobs at two depots in Scotland, reports Herald Scotland. There will be 750 positions at a new site in Dunfermline, Fife, and an additional 200 jobs at the company's existing centre in Gourock, west of Glasgow. At peak periods the company says it also expects to recruit 1,500 temporary workers.

Horticulture: A new branch of a chain of garden centres opening in Peterborough will create 120 jobs. Construction of the new £8m Dobbies garden centre will begin later this year, according to Peterborough Today. Half of the staff employed at the new centre will receive specialist training from the firm to arm them with horticultural knowledge and expertise.

Manufacturing: Paragon Flexibles, which makes lids, salad bags and polylactic acid films for the fresh and chilled food sectors, will create around 100 new jobs in Lincolnshire. The jobs will mainly be skilled manufacturing positions, reports This is Lincolnshire.

Hotel: Budget hotel chain Travelodge will create 700 jobs this year as it begins a £300m expansion, reports the Mirror. The company will build 35 new hotels in 2011, including eight in London with others in Birmingham, Hull, Cardiff and Cambridge.
