Instant analysis: Texans get athletic cover cornerback in Xavier Crawford

General manager Brian Gaine is showing that the defensive backfield is a priority. After selecting Lonnie Johnson in the second round the Texans select another cornerback with the selection of Xavier Crawford from Michigan in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL draft Saturday.

Crawford is another athletic cover corner that can play the slot and press coverage. Per Pro Football Focus he is ranked 13th at his position with a PFF grade of 85.0.

At 5-11 and 187 pounds Crawford has some speed at the position. Running a 4.48 and a vertical of 37.5 the former Central Michigan standout has all the makes of a solid number two corner in the NFL.

With Johnathan Joseph at 35 years old, adding much need depth and youth is a must after allowing Kareem Jackson to sign with the Denver Broncos in free agency.

Drafting Crawford was a solid pick for the Texans. With potential and upside there for Crawford the depth chart could be an issue.
