Instant analysis: Seattle Seahawks fall to Los Angeles Rams in wild-card round

The Seattle Seahawks’ 2020 NFL season came to an end Saturday afternoon when the team fell to the Los Angeles Rams 30-20 in the wild-card round at Lumen Field. It was one of Seattle’s worst outings of the year.

Both teams struggled to start offensively, trading field goals through most of the first half of the game. The Rams were the first to post a touchdown – (defensive – on an interception return) – but the Seahawks followed quickly after when quarterback Russell Wilson found wide receiver DK Metcalf for 51 yards and the Seattle score.

That’s where Seattle’s offensive “attack” would sputter, however, with the Seahawks only able to muster a Jason Myers’ field goal in the third quarter. Even with Rams’ defensive tackle Aaron Donald absent and in the locker room with a rib injury, the Seahawks were seemingly unable to move the football.

Seattle’s defense had more success on Saturday initially but still wasn’t able to totally stifle Jared Goff, despite the injured thumb on his throwing hand. The final nail in the Seahawks’ coffin came in the middle of the fourth quarter when D.J. Reed fumbled the punt return and the Rams recovered, scoring their final touchdown just four plays later to make it a 30-13 game.

Late in the fourth quarter, Wilson and Metcalf were able to shrink the Rams lead back down to 10 points with another touchdown but it would be too little too late for the Seahawks. Wilson was sacked five times in the game and gave up a pick-six. He completed just 11 of his 27 pass attempts.

Los Angeles beat Seattle 30-20 and now advances to the divisional round next weekend.

Stay tuned for more Seahawks coverage all night and throughout the weekend as we wrap up Seattle’s 2020 campaign.
