Instant analysis: Panthers complete the look at left tackle with Dennis Daley pick

The Panthers seem to be overestimating how good their secondary is. They have done a good job of addressing their needs in the trenches, though.

Carolina used a second-round pick on Ole Miss prospect Greg Little, who is projected to be the team’s long-term starter at left tackle. Truth be told, the Panthers needed more than one new player at that spot. That’s where South Carolina’s Dennis Daley comes in.

Daley was the team’s sixth-round pick at No. 212 overall. Coming into the draft, Daley was projected as a fifth-rounder, so he’s a good value at this spot.

Daley (6-foot-5, 317 pounds) bounced around some in college. After beginning his career at Georgia Military College, he transferred to USC, where he started 11 games at left tackle. Last season he started another 12 for the Gamecocks.

Picking Daley gives the Panthers two true left tackles on the roster to pair with their two natural right tackles in Daryl Williams and Taylor Moton.

Daley will have to improve his footwork in pass protection, but his power and mass will make up for a lot.
