Instant analysis: Panthers boost edge rotation again with Christian Miller pick

The Carolina Panthers finished last season ranked No. 27 in the league in sacks. Clearly, they intend on improving that ranking in 2019. The team has added three new edge players since the end of last season.

First, the Panthers signed former Falcons edge/linebacker Bruce Irvin in free agency to a cheap one-year deal. Then, in the first round they picked Florida State’s Brian Burns, who should be their star pass rusher for at least the next five years.

After addressing needs at left tackle and backup quarterback, Carolina came back around to the edge in round four, picking Alabama’s Christian Miller with the No. 115 overall pick.

Miller has exceptional length and sets the edge well. If he can develop his first step a little more, he could be another difference-maker for the defensive line.

It’s unclear at this time exactly where Miller will find himself on the depth chart once the 2019 season starts. That’s beside the point, though. Adding another edge rusher at this point in the draft was another good move. There’s literally been nothing not to like about this draft class so far.
