Instant analysis of the Lions drafting WR Travis Fulgham

With their first of their sixth-round picks, the Lions selected Old Dominion WR Travis Fulgham to bring necessary depth to the receiver corps.

The Lions went out and signed Danny Amendola and Tommylee Lewis to help out at receiver, but those guys were only brought in on a one year deal, so the Lions needed to bring another receiver for the future. Fulgham will be the offensive first player ever selected from Old Dominion.

Fulgham is one of those late bloomer receivers who doesn’t have a ton behind his name, but what he brings is the necessary size (6-2, 215 lbs) to win the contested catches downfield and could be a strong red-zone target with is the ability to adjust to the ball.

He has the willingness to block and is a strong competitor and brings a strong understanding of running routes. He will more than likely start off on special teams that could develop into a 4/5 receiver behind Marvin Jones and Kenny Golladay.

Fulgham is a small school prospect that brings a lot of upside for a Lions receiving corps that needed some help. He is a bring receiver that could provide Matthew Stafford with a dependable red-zone target and could help the run game with his willingness to block. He may only become a No. 4 receiver, but the Lions landed a great late round gem that will help in all facets of the game.
