Instant analysis of the Eagles agreeing to trade Michael Bennett to the Patriots

In the end, Eagles GM, and shot-caller Howie Roseman did what he had to do in agreeing to a deal that will see Michael Bennett traded to the World Champion New England Patriots, for a 2020 fifth round pick, and a seventh-round pick in 2020 also.

The Eagles will save $7.2 million in salary cap space, and couldn’t meet Bennett’s demands for a new deal or more money after they re-signed Brandon Graham. The wheels for separation were already set in motion the moment Bennett learned that he was being shopped at the NFL Combine. Bennett has held firm in his desire to remain a starter, and with former first-round pick Derek Barnett and Graham returning, that wasn’t going to happen.

Bennett recorded nine sacks, 15 tackles for loss, and 30 quarterback hits during the regular season and now the Eagles will most likely target an edge rusher in the first two rounds of the NFL Draft.
