Instant analysis of the Browns 7th round pick, Donnie Lewis Jr.

With the 221st pick in the seventh round, the Cleveland Browns select Donnie Lewis Jr., a cornerback from Tulane. Another interesting selection by Cleveland, most felt that Lewis would be available later or potentially as a UDFA target. He is a scheme-versatile corner with ideal size and length. Lewis has some rough film including a rough outing against Ohio State, but there is a lot to like.

Lewis really started to gain traction s a possible draft selection during his week at the East-West Shrine Game and apparently, the Browns liked what they saw. He is coming into the league with plenty of experience being a four-year starter and he has started multiple positions in the defensive backfield including safety and inside cornerback. Despite having some bad tape, Lewis does have some great game tape including contests against Houston.

His stickiness in coverage was also on display during the Cure Bowl against Louisiana-Lafayette. Lewis has the athleticism to play in the NFL and unlike early Draft selection, Greedy Williams, Lewis is great in transition with ideal hips. He may never develop into a starting caliber corner, but he can certainly provide key depth at a number of spots.
