Instant analysis of Seattle’s 33-27 loss to New Orleans

The Seattle Seahawks were disjointed and sloppy on Sunday afternoon, eventually losing 33-27 to the New Orleans Saints to fall to 2-1 on the season.

A few mistakes were tremendously costly for the Seahawks. The opening drive resulted in a punt, and poor coverage allowed Deonte Harris to return the punt for a touchdown, giving the Saints an early 7-0 lead.

It was the first punt returned for a touchdown against the Seahawks since Tavon Austin in 2015.

Later in the half, Chris Carson’s fourth fumble of the season was picked up by safety Vonn Bell and returned for a touchdown.

Finally, an illegal formation on a missed field goal attempt allowed New Orleans to re-start the drive with a first down, and the Saints ended up scoring a touchdown.

Giving up 20 points on mistakes is never a recipe for success, and although Seattle was able to make things interesting, the Seahawks weren’t able to overcome the trio of mistakes.

Bright spots for the Seahawks included quarterback Russell Wilson, who completed 32 passes for 402 yards and two touchdowns, while also carrying the ball seven times for 51 yards and two rushing touchdowns.

Veteran receiver Tyler Lockett had another high-volume game, hauling in 11 receptions for 154 yards and his second touchdown of the season.

Seattle’s two star linebackers, Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright, each had great games as well, salvaging what was otherwise a lackluster performance by the Seahawks defense.

Wagner finished with 18 combined tackles, while Wright had 13 and a pass defended.

The Seahawks will look to shake this game off and focus on their Week 4 opponent, the Cardinals, who they will face on Sunday, Sep. 28 at 1:05 p.m. PT in Arizona.
