Instant analysis of Seattle’s 27-20 victory over Atlanta

The Seattle Seahawks jumped all over the Atlanta Falcons early on Sunday, going up 24-0 at halftime before settling for a 27-20 victory.

The win gives them a 6-2 record on the season heading into a Week 9 matchup with the Buccaneers.

Seattle looked outstanding in the first half before allowing Atlanta to get back into the game in a disastrous third quarter. The Seahawks were outgained 153-2 in the third, giving up 11 points. However, they managed to hold on in the fourth quarter for the victory.

Russell Wilson rebounded from his uncharacteristically bad outing a week earlier against Baltimore, completing 14 of 20 passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns, giving him a 131.7 passer rating.

The two touchdowns went to rookie receiver DK Metcalf, giving him four on the season. Tyler Lockett had a great game as well, hauling in six receptions for 100 yards.

Seattle wasn’t only good through the air, with both Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny having effective games on the ground. Carson carried the ball 20 times for 90 yards and a one-yard touchdown, while Penny had arguably his strongest game of the season, rushing eight times for 55 yards.

Seattle’s defense had an up-and-down performance, allowing backup QB Matt Schaub to throw for 460 yards in his first start in four years. But linebacker Mychal Kendricks recorded an interception, and Marquise Blair forced a fumble that was recovered by Bobby Wagner and stopped what was almost certainly going to be a Falcons touchdown drive.

It wasn’t pretty, as Seahawks games rarely are, but the team is now 6-2 with a home date against a struggling Tampa Bay team in Week 8.
