Instant analysis of Seattle’s 23-15 win over Los Angeles

The Seattle Seahawks earned a 23-15 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday to move them to 2-1 in the preseason.

Los Angeles didn’t play the majority of their starters, which allowed Seattle to jump out to an early lead which they never relinquished.

The Seahawks set out to establish the run early in this contest and ended up finishing with 185 yards on the ground, yards which were gained by eight different ball carriers.

Both Rashaad Penny and C.J. Prosise had rushing touchdowns in the first half, while quarterback Geno Smith added a rushing touchdown of his own in the third quarter.

Prosise had an eye-opening performance for Seattle, rushing five times for 32 yards while also hauling in one reception for 15 yards. His raw talent has never been in question, but health issues have prevented the 2016 third-round pick from staying healthy.

Geno Smith took a big step forward in the backup quarterback position battle, completing 11 of 18 passes for 117 yards while also rushing for 26 yards – including a touchdown.

In the receiving game, John Ursua made a commanding statement over the other receivers battling for a roster spot, hauling in two receptions for 52 yards. Meanwhile, Gary Jennings only had one reception while committing a glaring 15-yard penalty, and Malik Turner, Amara Darboh and Jazz Ferguson combined for just 0 receptions on four targets.

The Seahawks looked strong defensively, and while they were up against a Chargers team that was without Philip Rivers, Melvin Gordon and Keenan Allen, it was still nice to see the defensive unit play well as a whole.

The Seahawks will finish the preseason off at home against the Raiders on Thursday, Aug. 29.
