With the No. 156 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins have selected Keith Ismael, from San Diego State.
The Redskins weren’t originally slotted to have this extra fifth-round pick, but the trade of LT Trent Williams earlier in the day gave them the extra draft capital, along with a third-round pick in 2021.
Ismael will be a great addition to the roster, and he’ll provide some much-needed depth on the offensive line.
Ismael seems like a weird pick for the Redskins, who have a desperate need for a CB and TE, with both Bryce Hall and Hunter Bryant left on the board, but his versatility is likely what Washington likes in him. In college, Ismael lined up at both the left guard and right guard spots and his ability to plug holes on the front line. If the Redskins deal with injuries up front, as they often have, Ismael will prove the ability to hold the front line and keep the ship afloat.
It may not have been a major position of need, but Ron Rivera and Kyle Smith obviously saw some great value in Ismael, leading them t buck the common thought and take a versatile lineman.
