Instant analysis of Chargers selecting OT Trey Pipkins

The Chargers ended Day 2 off with the addition of former Sioux Falls offensive tackle Trey Pipkins at No. 91 overall.

The 6-foot-6, 310 pounder was a three-year starter for the Cougars at the left tackle position and two-time All-NSIC first team selection. Pipkins did not allow a single sack in his senior season, and was only beaten for one sack as a junior.

After dominating his Division 2 competition the past three season, Pipkins was a bright spot during the East-West Shrine Game where he was dominate against some of the top defensive linemen. Because of this, it helped his draft stock skyrocket.

Los Angeles’ offensive line struggled as a whole towards the end of the 2018 season, but much of that fell on the shoulders of Sam Tevi. Drafting Pipkins only helped add a inside-out depth piece to supply competition for Tevi or Dan Feeney in 2019.

It will take a little bit of time for Pipkins to get caught up to NFL competition and he will need to get stronger, but he possesses the frame and movement skills that can translate into a solid option that can be called upon.
