Instant analysis of Chargers selecting FS Nasir Adderley

The Chargers were in need of a true free safety that would be capable of stepping in and starting right away. Former Delaware’s Nasir Adderley had been a familiar name throughout the pre-draft process, and Los Angeles felt he was the ideal match.

Adderley, a two-time FCS All-American, was considered one of the draft’s best safety prospects. Despite being from a small program, Adderley turned heads throughout the past few months prior to the draft.

On film, Adderley plays the position with phenomenal instincts, range and ball skills, which is needed to be a great NFL safety. He is a former cornerback and his hip fluidity reflects that. He is smooth in his backpedal and his combination of recognizing plays and burst allow him to cover ground in a flash.

Adderley will likely be the starting free safety in Week 1 and Derwin James will man the strong safety role.

This is a great selection made by L.A.
