Instant analysis of Broncos’ selection of Drew Lock in the NFL draft

The Denver Broncos, right after selecting Dalton Risner, trading up into the very next spot to make one of the biggest splashes of the draft so far on Friday evening.

With their second pick in the second round, the Broncos chose Missouri quarterback Drew Lock, a player they were connected to throughout the entire draft process.

Some analysts said that John Elway loved Lock while others didn’t seem to believe that notion. That answer was made clear on Friday night when the Broncos moved up 10 slots to grab him.

Lock draws many comparisons to another Broncos quarterback, Jay Cutler. Some may not see that as a good thing, but it’s mainly because he has a rocket arm and shows fearlessness and belief that he can make any throw.

His accuracy tends to suffer and he displays a level of inconsistency that led to him dropping to the second round. Still, the Broncos believed that the raw talent that was there was worth the move up.

Lock will likely sit behind Joe Flacco for most if not all of his rookie season at least while he absorbs as much as he can from the veteran quarterback. That said, you have to wonder what this pick does to the psyche of Flacco, who is yet to take a snap for the Broncos.
