Instant analysis from Dolphins’ last-second loss to the Falcons in Week 7

For the second time in two weeks, the Miami Dolphins lost a game on a last-second field goal. This instance came from Falcons’ kicker Younghoe Koo who gave Atlanta a 30-28 lead as time expired.

This game was an absolute rollercoaster, as the Dolphins continuously got themselves in good positions before shooting themselves in the foot.

Tua Tagovailoa was the peak of this fact. He would have great drives where he was completing nearly all of his passes and appeared to be driving before he would throw an interception in the end zone. This could also be seen in the second half when, for the second week in a row, the defense forced a turnover and Tagovailoa threw an interception the very next play.

At the end of the day, Tagovailoa had four touchdowns and made two mistakes. The fanbase will be ready to move on from him after the team’s sixth straight, and that will definitely be a conversation that will be had throughout the week.

What has been very clear recently, and was evident again on Sunday, is that there’s a trio of offensive weapons who do great things for this team. That group consists of Jaylen Waddle, Mike Gesicki, and Myles Gaskin. Beyond that, there’s not much in terms of talent that could be described as difference-makers.

The defense was up-and-down throughout the day as well. They were getting consistently beat by Kyle Pitts who put up a staggering seven receptions for 163 yards, and they gave up the long touchdown to Russell Gage on a play-action that looked to have fooled Jevon Holland.

Josh Boyer’s unit did, however, create three turnovers by intercepting Matt Ryan twice and forcing a fumble on the quarterback’s scramble.

There were some building blocks in this game, but if you can’t beat the Falcons after forcing three turnovers, there’s something inherently wrong with the team.

Get ready for another week of Deshaun Watson rumors and discussions about the coach and general manager.
