Instant analysis: Falcons get their power running back in Qadree Ollison

Qadree Ollison is a true power back that should fit in very well for the Falcons. He’s not going to go out there and catch 100 passes in a season and might end up playing fullback before all is said and done. However, this is a sharp pick.

Ollison is a big running back that will be used primarily in short yardage and red zone situations and compares favorably to former Falcon T.J. Duckett. He’s a grinder who will run through tackles and gain 10 yards on plays that he should only get 2-3 yards on. Ollison is also a solid pass protector, so they will be able to rotate him in on passing plays as well.

Adding Ollison to the mix with Devonta Freeman, Brian Hill and Ito Smith will give Atlanta a powerful option to offset the raw speed the other three provide. He’s still underrated in his speed aspect, but the Falcons drafted him to be more of that grinder anyway.

Offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter came to town and wanted a power back to join the speedy backs Atlanta has already, which makes Ollison a better fit than the speedy Trayveon Williams from Texas A&M.
