Instant analysis: Falcons get another physical, long cornerback in Jordan Miller

The Falcons needed more depth at cornerback and added a long and physical one with Washington’s Jordan Miller in the fifth round of the draft. Miller is a prototypical cover 3 corner and will play behind Isaiah Oliver as a rookie. Adding Miller gives Atlanta the true outside cornerback depth that they have been lacking.

Miller does very well in zone schemes and has been a bit of a ball hawk for the Huskies. He looks like a perfect fit for Dan Quinn and has the kind of length Quinn loves. He’s also tough in press coverage and could see more playing time than his fourth-round counterpart Kendall Sheffield in 2019.

The Falcons will use Miller and Sheffield to backup their outside starters Desmond Trufant and Oliver. While Sheffield offers speed, Miller is a more physical corner to go against the big-bodied wide receivers around the NFC South like Mike Evans.

The Falcons came into the draft needing a lot more cornerback depth with just three competent ones on the roster. Adding two is an excellent use of the team’s draft capital at this point. They have enough talent at the position now that a good one might wind up getting cut.
