The donut is finally gone. The Jets are no longer 0-for-forever against the Philadelphia Eagles. A late touchdown off of a Tony Adams interception helped the Jets pull the upset of the previously undefeated Eagles by a score of 20-14 and record their first win ever in the regular season over the Eagles. The Jets had previously been 0-12 against Philadelphia.

Scoring a win over the Eagles and getting to 3-3 heading into their bye week, with all that happened with injuries and the schedule they faced, the Jets are on cloud nine right now. Here’s our game notes from New York’s major win.

Final score: Jets 20, Eagles 14

Game notes

  • After a quick first possession on offense, the Jets let the Eagles grind through the field, going 91 yards on 19 plays, taking almost 10 minutes off the clock. The end result was a Jalen Hurts touchdown.
  • The Jets answered with three points. Then something you’ve never seen before…a Quinnen Williams interception.
  • Who would have thought Quinnen Williams would get an interception before his first full sack this season? But he did thanks on a pass intended for Eagles tight end Dallas Geodert that was deflected by Jermaine Johnson.
  • Unfortunately, the Jets didn’t take advantage, turning the ball over on downs as Zach Wilson threw to Tyler Conklin who was short of the first-down marker.
  • That proved costly as the Eagles then drove the field and, thanks to shoddy tackling from the Jets, found the end zone again to take a 14-3 lead.
  • The Jets would add a pair of field goals before halftime to make the score 14-9.
  • Bryce Huff was up to his old tricks again, getting a sack on the Eagles’ first possession of the second half.
  • The Jets had a chance for points early in the third quarter and completed a deep pass to Garrett Wilson on a free play thanks to the Eagles jumping offsides…until Allen Lazard was called for a blindside block that trumped the offsides penalty and knocked the Jets out of field goal range.
  • The Jets’ red-zone woes reared their ugly heads yet again. Three trips to the red zone, zero touchdowns.
  • Jermaine Johnson continued his breakout sophomore season early in the 4th quarter, hitting Jalen Hurts as he threw a pass and Bryce Hall came up with the interception, his second takeaway in as many weeks. The Jets again went three and out in response.
  • The Jets’ defense bent but didn’t break when the Eagles got to the red zone in the fourth quarter. Huff and John Franklin-Myers got to Hurts on third down and then kicker Jake Elliott missed only his second field goal of the season.
  • After missing another opportunity, the Jets gave the ball back to the Eagles and it started to look like the Eagles would run the clock out. All they needed was a first down.
  • Jalen Hurts then made a terrible decision on third down after the two-minute warning and Tony Adams picked him off and got the Jets inside the ten. Breece Hall scored on the next play, though the Eagles probably let him score to save time.
  • The defense held one final time and the Jets did it. They beat the Philadelphia Eagles.
  • After everything that happened this season, to be 3-3 with the schedule they had to start is absolutely incredible. The Jets have their bye coming up now and the schedule eases up a little after the bye with games against the Giants, Chargers and Raiders.

It was over when...

…safety Tony Adams picked off Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, Breece Hall scored on the next play and the defense came up with one final stop.

3 stars of the game

3rd star: DE Jermaine Johnson – Jermaine Johnson may not have gotten a sack, but he really helped change momentum. He ended the day with three passes defended, one of which against Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert that was deflected and landed in the hands of Quinnen Williams. Johnson has been having a great sophomore season.

2nd star: DE Bryce Huff – Another day where Bryce Huff continues to show he deserves to be paid like one of the better pass-rushers in the NFL. Huff scored 1.5 sacks on Jalen Hurts and hit him twice. He helped end a couple of Eagles’ drives and was a key piece in the Jets hanging around all day long.

1st star: S Tony Adams – The Eagles looked poised to extend their undefeated season. They only needed one more first down. Tony Adams had other ideas, picking off what was a terrible decision by Jalen Hurts and putting the Jets in position to win the game. Without that pick, the Eagles are sitting at 6-0 and the Jets would be 2-4 going into their bye. Instead, New York gets to 3-3 and takes a two-game winning streak into their week off.

Play of the game

Is there really any debate at this point? It’s Tony Adams. Without that interception (or the bad decision by Jalen Hurts), the Eagles probably get the first down and run out the clock.

What's next?

The Jets head into their bye week at 3-3 and riding high. They’ll be back in action in two weeks back at MetLife Stadium but as the road team as they “visit” the New York Giants in Week 8. This could be the start of a nice run for the Jets. They get the Giants, Chargers and Raiders coming out of the bye. They could very well get to at least 5-4 or even 6-3 before the rematch with the Bills in Week 11.
