New Cardiff café called ‘the best spot in the city’ serving smoothie bowls and brunches

A tiny café has quickly become one of the most loved by all kinds of visitors to the city of Cardiff.

Known for its scandi design and aesthetic brunch bowls topped with edible flowers and greenery, there is nothing quite like Social Eats in the mostly student population of Cathays.

Inside, the wooden shelves are adorned with houseplants and a little retail shop selling UK coffee and filtering instruments.

When the café first opened on Salisbury Road, it became well known for its Instagrammable buddha bowls and it now has nearly 10,000 followers on the social media platform.

Now, it has scaled back slightly to traditional all-day brunches but still with that aspirational finish you can never quite manage at home.

The menu now includes egg options, with everything from eggs benedict to avocado on toast, Welsh breakfasts, and sweet options including waffles, oats and smoothie bowls.

Plus, the coffee is all sourced from local Clifton Coffee Roasters and made with a La Marzocco machine and cakes are made in house to grab and go.

Everything is served in pastel-coloured ceramic plates, bowls and mugs from Matthew Jones Ceramics , local in Barry.

The café, which is also dog-friendly, has gone down a treat since opening, possibly thanks to its ability to chop and change based on consumer habits.

Back in summer, Social Eats launched a cocktail menu and later opening times and recently it relaunched its brunch menu with lower prices to cater for the student crowds in Cathays.

It has a five star rating on Trip Advisor with one review saying, “Recommend this place to everyone. You will wish they were your local coffee shop and eatery!”

Another said, “Food was beautifully presented, ridiculously tasty and came out faster than I expected and the coffee was amazing.”

One called it “the best spot in the city” while another said it was the “best coffee shop in Wales”.
