NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Instagram users will now see stories from accounts that the social media site thinks they should follow, the company announced on Monday.
Instagram "Stories" are a succession of pictures or short videos that users can upload to their account for other users to view. When the feature was first added earlier this month, Instagram only showed the stories from accounts that a user already follows.
Now, with the help of a Facebook (FB) -like algorithm, Instagram will suggest stories for users based on interests and accounts that they already follow, CNBC's Kayla Tausche explained on "Squawk Box" on Tuesday morning.
"As if you didn't have enough to watch on social media already," Tausche said.
By advertising other users to follow, Instagram seems to be force feeding its users, she noted.
"Particularly on Instagram, which is generally more curated and targeted in the first place," CNBC's Wilfred Frost said in agreement. "I don't think it's going to work for them shoving more stuff in front of them."
Instagram says over 100 million users are taking advantage of the Stories feature.
